The Society was founded in Sydney in 1988 and has grown steadily in membership and national significance since then.

The Society holds regular meetings in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The Society meets in Adelaide on an irregular basis but generally about every three months.

From time to time the Society also arranges visits to collections and exhibitions of interest to members and organises occasional tours both local and interstate.

A bi-monthly Newsletter, which may include presentations given at the previous meetings, are published and circulated to members.

The Silver Society welcomes applications for membership. Guests may attend up to two meetings after which an application for membership is required for attending further meetings.
